Sorry we’ve been MIA lately. The DBFP girls have been doin’ big things-and rockin’ out to fellow badasses Those Dancing Days on repeat. We finally nabbed the full album (“In Our Space Hero Suits”) from our uber-elitist music snob friend Ry Ry after multiple failed attempts to purchase it through Swedish iTunes, Spotify, etc. Well, at least we TRIED. If you’ve never heard of these chicks before you’re missing out. For a group of 19 year olds (as seems to be the trend these days, ahem…) they rock out pretty hard-AND you can’t fail to mention the Zeppelin reference in their band name, insta-cred as far as we’re concerned.

I caught a great, GREAT show last night at the Bowery Ballroom and feel the need to share the love with the Blogosphere. So I’ve been jammin’ out on The Dodo‘s new album “Time to Die” since they hosted it (along with videos of the boys shootin’ the shit and lookin fooooine in the process) on their website this summer. I nabbed tix to the show early, which was lucky for me because it ended up selling out.

So I cruised to the show with my girl Hillary. The two of us Colorado girls totally got down on the uber-fun island jamrock beats of New Zealanders The Ruby Suns. Their set was short but Sha-WEET and came complete with set props that conjured memories of Jamaican beach getaways. A great light hearted warmup for the main event.

The Dodos set completely rocked my life. Watching Meric Long play guitar with such intensity had me mesmerized to begin with, but when the group shut the lights and he whipped out gloves with LED lights in the fingertips he nearly blew my mind. Long then preceded to whip out some crazy cool moves with Keaton Snyder on the vibraphone and I was beyond smitten. By the time the end of their set rolled around they had nearly the entire crowd of hipsters hand-clapping and head-bobbing. They also had the early-40-something drunk guy behind me dancing his brains out. I couldn’t tell if it was the pre-show Sierra Nevadas or just the complete awesomeness of the show that had me permagrinning and dancing along with him-but of course I didn’t care. The set came to a close-as all good things must-with a euphoric roar from the crowd and drunky screaming in my ear “Now THAT’s a Fuckin’ Rock Band.”

As a child Where the Wild Things Are was undoubtably one of my favorite books. An avid reader, I credit it the reason I spent hours upon hours at the local library (and/or a raging combination of ugly duckling and weird little kid syndromes?) Anyway, I’m so excited for Spike Jonez interpretation I can hardly wait.

Today, the first single from the soundtrack-put together by none other than the ever incredible Karen O-surfaced on MySpace. “All is Love” is aptly titled, because I love, LOVE, love it. The combination of superpowers in Karen O and the Kids (including members of The Dead Weather, Deerhunter, Liars, and others) absolutely kill it. Ryan Gosling gets even Hotter

While I’ve always found the actor/model types much MUCH less attractive than musicians I’ve always had a soft spot for Ryan Gosling. I don’t know a chick on this planet who wouldn’t after seeing The Notebook-I don’t care how hard you are. His bearded, lumberjack style and his “lassiez-faire” attitude about how good looking and famous he is are just charming as all hell. So when I came across word that he was, in fact, ALSO a musician he became that much sexier in my head. I was a little worried at first. I mean, we’ve all seen this actor-to-musician thing totally suck (ahem, LaLohan?) and disappointment from his Royal Hotness would have been a little devastating. But it doesn’t suck-it’s actually really good. It’s a little eerie and on the strange side but after a couple listens I’m really, really into it. Especially the creepy take on the Mouseketeer’s at the end of the song (“Z-0-M-B-I-E-imazombie!”) Check it out:

The boys just announced a tour-HOORAYY! Announced today on Pitchfork, Dead Man’s Bones will be hitting 12 cities across America and Canada this October. I’ll be checking them out the 15th @ NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge check here to see if they’re swinging your way.

Also included with the announcement is the creepiest promo video I’ve ever seen. The album and tour kick off right in time to start celebrating Halloween early. I couldn’t be more jazzed.
